Mad Catter

So you're probably getting bored reading my recent posts. You want to hear about how Mr. W is moving into an awesome penthouse outside London. Or how one of my nieces let a wallaby eat a trisket cracker out of her mouth the other day. But right now I feel like discussing odd animal behavior.

See, I've had cats all my life and I'm used to most of their strange feline quirks. However, my little 9-year old cat Zoë displays the weirdest behavior ever, every single morning.

She waits on the bathroom sink while I'm in the shower, sitting like a little bookend. And when I emerge from the glass doors, she starts yelling at me and pacing. Then she starts to purr as she walk back and forth. This escalates until she is in snuggle overload mode. She smashes her head against my body like a prairie dog rolling in the dirt. And sometimes she gets so drunk on snuggle hormones that she falls off the sink. But other mornings, she just hops down and weaves figure eights through my legs while I put on my make up.

The strangest part about it, though, is that she puffs up like a bottle brush. I've never known a cat to put its hair on end unless it's frightened or threatened. But not Zoë. It's like her bizarre little cat senses get so heightened, she goes into intoxicated fight or flight.

Anyone else ever seen anything like this? Or do you have another odd animal story to share?

That is a bit bizarre; endearing, but bizarre.

Not a Dingo is the first cat I've ever owned so I don't know if what I consider her quirks are normal cat behavior or not. I can say that she definitely does not hang out in the bathroom with me though. Both furry kids run for cover when the shower is on.

*my word verification is "shedder".

I'm not a cat gal myself. But my dog? Exhibits cat-like behavior. She always rubs up on us just like cats. Prancing back and forth while whacking us with her rear-end. Oh yeah, and she smiles, too.

When we scratch our dog on the top of her butt (above the tail, of course), her tail goes kind of limp, like it feels so good that she just can't hold it up all the way anymore. Can't really describe it, but it's pretty funny.

I remember seeing on a nature show that when a cat rubs you with its head it's a sexual maneuver, and if you keep petting their head you are sexually exciting them, and that is why it often ends in a love bite from kitty.

So maybe you're just sexy?

it's something about the shower, i think. cosmo is ALL OVER ME when i get out of the shower. he's not usually one who wants to be held, but he's all over it when im in a towel, fresh out of the shower.

Dingo - That might just be the most appropriate word verification ever. I wonder if Dingo and NotA are running from the shower or running to protect the house from zombies while you're in there?

Nilsa - That's so funny! She's such a cute girl. I wish I could add a dog to my family.

Amy - Hilarious. I thought they only put their tails down when they were sad?

Mandy - So Zoe's trying to seduce me? Or am I inappropriately petting her? Is animal protective services going to show up on my doorstep?

Brookem - There is nothing worse than a dry cat rubbing against wet legs. Maybe you should make him wear his St. Patty's Day t-shirt every day!

I think Zoe was perhaps a pervert in her previous life.

So, you are engaging in heavy petting with your kitty (note I didn't use the "P" synonym) while your man is gone....Hmmmm. Sounds like you need to get over to London soon.

Sister and Mandy - You guys are pervs. I don't even know what you're talking about...

I bet your hair got all frizzed out like your kitty's when you read our comments.

That's right Mandy! Little Miss Innocent's tail got all puffed out, especially when she saw that penthouse that Mr. W's sporting these days.

Since I married Crazy Cat Lady, I have 3 cats. Even when I am sitting straight up, the little cat curls up on the ledge that is my boobies. The other cat has an internal alarm and manages to wake me up RIGHT before my alarm goes off my curling up on my chest.

Are you sensing a pattern?
