Overheard at the Office

Let me preface this story by reminding you that I work at a tech company. A big one. Like a staple of the Internet. It just seemed wrong to hear this conversation within the walls of my company...

Person 1: "I don't understand blogging."

Person 2: "Seriously, blogging is for people who want to be stalked. They're just trying to get stalkers."

Person 1: "I know—I mean, no one cares that you went for a walk and then to the grocery store."

Person 2: "Unless they're stalking you."

I don't know about you, fellow bloggers, but I don't write on here in hopes of being stalked. And it seems that if anyone should grasp the value of The Blog, it should be people who work for a tech company. They must've been morons from finance or something...

On a happier note, I'm leaving tomorrow to go see Mr. Wonderful. Just a red eye away from rehabilitating my lips and revoking my asexual status... Damn it, I forgot that my mom is coming back from vacation and will be reading this. Mom, he has 3 bedrooms in the penthouse, so the only thing I'll be sleeping on top of is the mattress in the guest bedroom. Not him. Don't worry. Think of white dresses and kitten whiskers. I'm sorry you and dad ripped the air conditioner unit off the roof of the motorhome when you tried to go through that car wash. A story for another day, perhaps...

Au revoir!

Person 1, 2, and 3 don't understand blogging but I bet they have a Facebook account and check it incessantly.

Have fun with Mr. W!

Mom, is you are reading this, Mel has told me that she intends to save herself for marriage. And we laughed and laughed and laughed. Sorry about the air conditioner.

Nice distraction technique with the air conditioner reminder...Mom, she's practically pregnant.

Isn't it so weird when people talk negatively about blogs without knowing you have one? Or hell, it's even weirder when they do and they KNOW you have one. I had a "friend" once who actually said to me, "I saw a t-shirt and thought of you. It said 'I don't care about your stupid blog'." Nice, huh? Whatevs.

I cracked up at your note to your mom...and Dingo's comment. Hee!

did they really rip the A/C off of the motorhome?! hilarious. I thought your mom didn't do car washes?

Have a fun trip....

Just because you work at a tech company doesn't mean you're not surrounded by ignorant people. They're everywhere! =)

Based on conversations I've had with my husband, I think it's hard to fully grasp the benefits of blogging until you do it. And he has an inside edge (i.e., I tell him about my experiences). So, I can only imagine what people who know no bloggers think.

Have a wonderful trip - we won't blame you if you go light on blogging while you're away. You might have something more important to do. ;-)

Have a great trip, Mel!

I admire your technique there at the end. ;-)

From your first story it is clear that working for a tech company does not necessarily mean you have your finger on the pulse of the internet.

Hope you're having a great time "sleeping". ;-)

Weird. How do they, like, have friends if they don't understand blogging. Ha.

Have a great time! (I don't know why I say that. It's like saying "have a great time" to my dog just as she goes to roll in a pile of something. How can she NOT?)

Also, Mel's mom, you should know that everyone always has to keep there clothes on and fastened in Europe. It's weird.

I needed a laugh today, so I just re-read your post....thanks! Maybe if I worked for a tech company I would know how to change the name that I post under instead of using my 2-year-old son's name.

Agree with what Nilsa said, people who don't blog really don't get it. I've tried to explain to my husband, and he thinks the same thing "your just opening yourself up for trouble" - when actually it's quite the opposite.

Have a great time with Mr. W :)

I definitely have no intention of accumulating stalkers! And I love getting to know people better and keep up with their lives... they obviously have never tried it!

Have a fabulous trip!

I am glad you cleared up the sleeping arrangements. I was worried. And because you have to sleep in your clothes, that made your packing lighter.
By, the way, we love our new sunroof on the motorhome.

One of the account people at my ad agency called me to ask if I would speak to the entire agency about "Blogging."

I said sure.

Then I was forwarded her conference report, and in it, she mentions that "three notorious bloggers" would be presenting to the entire company.

BWAHAHAHAHA.

Account people aren't so good with the words.
