Blubbering Fool

I did not used to be a crier. For more than half of my life, I was a pretty tear-free individual who only let loose the waterworks when I was really mad or in physical pain. Some people are born criers. My 11-year-old niece is one of these. For as long as I can remember, she’s been a sensitive soul, likely to burst at the slightest little thing. My gorgeous friend in Texas is also like this.

I never was, until I fell in love.

I remember noticing the transition right near age 21. I didn’t know whether it was because I had moved away from home finally, or because I had started birth control pills. But suddenly something was uncorked inside me and if I tilted the wrong direction, it would spill out all over. Looking back, I can absolutely see that it was love that set it all off.

I was living in Orange County and my boyfriend still lived in my hometown. Every time I would drive back to my apartment after a visit, I would cry. The love had turned me into a weepmonster.

And it never stopped.

Anytime Mr. Wonderful gives me a sweet card, I get teary. I cry watching stories on The Today Show. I weep after great vacations. I’ve gotten choked up during Entourage. Even this morning, I heard Stevie Wonder’s “I’ll be loving you always” and pictured my dad and I possibly dancing to it…at some event in the future…and on came the sprinkler system.

I can’t think about how lucky I am to have Mr. Wonderful without tearing up. I can’t watch an episode of The Biggest Loser or Sex and the City without dabbing my eyes. I can’t believe I’ve turned into such a sap.

Is this something that just happens with age? Or did love curse me with watering eyes for the rest of my life? And if I’m this much of a blubbering fool, how am I ever going to make it through a wedding some day?

I’m toast.

I've ALWAYS been a crier, literally from the day I was born until now. (I admittedly have cried today).

I don't think I cried once, if at all, during the wedding day. You a ball of nerves, energy, and excitement that I think, in my case, the tears fell by the wayside for once. I'm sure multiple people have told you this, but everything goes by SO fast that I don't think you have time to get teary. Plus, you don't want to ruin the makeup that you paid a small fortune to get applied. ;)

Just be sure to wear waterproof mascara. ;-)

I think being a crier is good. FEEL things. That's the good stuff of life. Think of how many people are checked out. You're on the good side of this coin.

All I can say is, thank god there's no video from our wedding. Our ceremony? I was a big, fat, crying mess. Even to this day, if Sweets looks at me the right way, hello crocodile tears! And forget about it with TV - I've been known to even tear up at commercials. Sigh.

I agree with Sizz ... it's good to feel things. To be passionate about life.

I was/am the same way! I was NEVER a crier. Until about two-years ago. I became a blubbering idiot at everything! I think it does have something to do with age. I was also talking with my yoga mentor about it and she said that it has a lot to do with having an open heart and through meditation you become more compassionate and have a deeper sense of loving-kindness, which creates a vulnerability in you that allows for greater emotions. I know...I sound like a freak to some people but - it's true! I know you've mentioned yoga several times on here and it definitely is more than just a physical exercise, so maybe that's an influence to you too?? Who knows...

don't think I'm crazy, okay?

Just remember: "It takes a big man to cry, but it takes a bigger man to laugh at that man." -Jack Handy.

;) I love to cry. In face I should get paid to cry for a living. If I find that- I'll let you be my business partner.

I would take crying all of the time to find the happines that you seem to have! It is a good thing.
So bawl away girl!
And if you think it is bad now, wait and see what it is like if you ever get pregnant. Geesh

i don't cry anymore about the biggest loser but i get teary eyed at the end of the amazing race if i like the team being eliminated.
oh yeah, and those cymbalta commercials. aagh.

It appears that we have quite a few weepers here. I am proud to be in such great company.

I feel so much better knowing there are so many criers out there! Particularly because I sat on the couch Friday night, bawling my eyes out to Steel Magnolias...

I have no idea why but I was crying to "Take A Bow" from Glee. Rihana? Not a drop. Glee? You'd think I had my finger amputated.

Certainly makes for strange looks during my run.

Okay...I am not usually a cryer...BUT...during the final miles of the LA Marathon "Ebony and Ivory" came on my iPod and I started crying. First of all...how was that song even on there? And second....I am going to blame it on being totally delirious from the run, not the sentiment of the song.

BTW...my word verification is dintoe...couldn't help but think of the Christmas gift of toenails this past year.
