Because There Are Rules, That's Why.

Yesterday I told Mr. W about my last blog post. He laughed again when I used the word "greenlight," and he had a strong reaction to the recurring suggestion that showed up in my comments.

"Several of my readers told me I should just propose to you, since we seem to be on the same page and all," I said.

"I would say no," he replied.

"What! Come on that's just mean!"

"That's NOT the way it's supposed to go, though! I am supposed to propose to YOU—not the other way around."

And there you have it. Mr. Etiquette insists on doing things the old fashioned way. So I guess we're all stuck here together waiting for the light to change. Sigh...

For better or worse (pun intended), American society just isn't *there* yet. Guys want to do the proposing and when women do it, it looks desperate. Even if everyone is on the same page. Plus, I kinda like to think Mr. W. has a romantic streak in him and will sweep you off your feet!

im with nilsa. i think this proposal is going to be perfect. not that every girl wouldn't say their proposal is that way, but, i just have this feeling mr. w. is really going to pull out the big guns on this one.

LET'S TALK ABOUT LOST.

i do think that the guy should propose - partly because i'm old-fashioned in some aspects, but also because D used to always remind me that he never asked me to marry him (and you know how that ended). not that Mr. W is that kind of person, but i think it will mean a lot to him to do it.

Ha! Tell him to hop to it then or somebody else might beat him to the punch.

Besides, if he waits too long, he will get older and less attractive and YOU might say, "no!"

:)

I have a feeling it's all part of his plan! :)

Also, can I be involved in the LOST chat with you and Brookem? I can't quit thinking/talking about it today!

Y'all can keep that Bachelorette stuff, though. ;)

I find myself reacting strongly here, having been in this situation twice. It did not end well either time. I hope it comes soon! I can't stand it! :)

Yeah, guys are funny like that...a lot still adhere to the old-fashioned "rules" of engagement and marriage. I can't tell you how many guys I know think it's REQUIRED that their wives take on their last name.

To be honest, I think most women want to be proposed to anyway and have that cute story to tell all their friends and family.

I can't wait to read your post on it...I'm sure it'll turn out exactly how you want it to. :)

I have to say that i agree with him. There should be no hurry! You have him forever already. Let him be the man that he wants to be! :)

Okay, so he knows that you want the proposal, but won't give you one, and won't let you propose to him. And, at the end of the day, you really, really want that ring, right?

Maybe it's a question of motivation. Tell him if he doesn't ask for your hand in marriage by the end of the year, I will. That oughta do it. ;)
