Give Me Some Demerol, Please!

You know those women who yell at their husbands when they're in labor, "YOU did this to me!"? I'm feeling like one of them.

Bless Mr. W's heart for proposing to me. And convincing me to buy a house. I just wish it wouldn't have happened all at the very same time. The pains of these labors are making me want to treat him like the man who got me pregnant.

We are in the throes of escrow. Which is probably totally cool if you don't have deadlines at work and 96 ribbons to glue to 96 candle holders. No, I take that back. Everyone I know who has ever bought a house said it was stressful.

Much like working in advertising, there's a lot of "We need this RIGHT now!" So you frantically scramble to produce requested items, and then you sit. Every day this week, I've come home to a different packet of stuff on the front porch that needs to be signed and returned. I'm ready to amputate my own hand just so I can have a break from signing papers.

Then there's the behemoth of a To Do list I'm carrying around in my mind. ALL the packing. ALL the moving of things. The garage sale I need to have. The couch I need to sell. The envelopes I need to print for our wedding invitations. And Thanksgiving is only 42 days away! The holidays are coming!

It's enough to make me want to grab someone by the collar and tell them to give me drugs and wake me up when it's all over. I would say, "Thank God we're going to Santa Barbara to drink wine for the weekend," but I almost think I'd rather be here cleaning out closets...

I would likely be feeling the same way with lists upon lists (lists make me feel in control). But, honestly, you do need to balance the stress with some unwinding. Maybe make one master list with dates to complete each task by on them? Then leave it at home and go have a lovely wine-filled weekend!

There's nothing like buying and owning a house to make you question your sanity. People can tell you to take breaks or whatever but honestly, I'm not sure that'll even work. But, when the keys are in your hand and you do exhale, it is a beautiful thing.
I imagine the day after the wedding will feel much the same. :)

I think the wine chips sounds like a good idea.

Well, since the alternative is dumping Mr. W, calling off the wedding, and moving back into a tiny apartment, I'm thinking it's better just to stick it out...

Brookem - Brilliant. You are seriously a genius.

Sizzle - Great advice! I drank enough to keep me calm over the weekend then started on several lists this morning.

Lesley - Yes! I'm so looking forward to the day when all it settled - on both counts!

Mandy - I think they might be. The alcohol probably counteracts the brain freeze after awhile.

Geekhiker - You forgot "live with cats for eternity." Yes, I intend to tough it out on this path. I know it'll all be worth it in the end!

ugh, does not sound fun. especially packing. but it's a great opportunity to give stuff away and figure out what is just weighing you down.

are there other things you can put off? i'm in my place over a year and still have no light fixtures in most of the rooms. i'll get to them...eventually.

You know, there are people out here and can effectively glue ribbons on to candle for a wedding that is still 5 months away!!!!!! Prioritize and continue drinking.
