Big Weepy Sap

I don't even watch The Bachelor. Okay fine, I've watched a couple of episodes here and there...and I got way into some of the past seasons. But it's not one of those TV shows that I look forward to all week.

So tonight, when I tuned in (somewhat accidentally) for the season finale, I wasn't at all prepared to end up sniffling and writing this post. I don't even care for the girl British Matt chose. She seems kind of phony. But when he got down on one knee and opened that ring box in front of her, the chord inside me that's tuned for engagements and weddings twanged. And the next thing I knew, the waterworks were in full effect.

There is just something about that moment. When a man kneels before you and tells you that out of every other woman he has ever met, he wants to be with you. He wants to wake up to you each morning. Kiss you goodnight as he falls asleep. Share secrets and sandwiches and a bank account. He wants to give you his last name; take you on as his family. He wants to be your husband.

Almost every girl dreams about that moment from the time she is little. I've played it out again and again—changing the face of the fiancĂ©, or sometimes giving him no face at all. Just imagining that feeling of...wow...this is it. I've waited a long time for it. I'm one of the last of my surviving single friends. And as much as I'm anxious for the moment to arrive, I'm willing to wait for it. Because I know when it does, it'll be better than I ever could have dreamed.

I usually don't watch The Bachelor either; this has been the first season I kinda vaguely paid attention to (mostly b/c I think he wasn't too bad looking and had a hilarious sense of humor). With that said, I wasn't a fan of the girl (Lorenzo Llamas' daughter), but I know what you mean about watching someone drop to one knee and really laying it out there.

Worth the wait, for sure! I firmly believe, for those that have waited, it's going to be the really good one b/c you're at the absolute best YOU and you know what you want (and don't want) after all the experiences.

I gotta say, as a guy, I'm not particularly looking forward to that moment. Cuz all the pressure is on me. To find the right moment. To say the right thing. To not screw it the hell up. Which I probably would.

I dunno. Maybe if I found the right person, I'd feel differently. But at the moment, the very idea of it sends shivers down my spine...

I saw the proposal last night too, and felt a little teary eyed. I missed when he gave the other one the boot though? And, I feel like the one he chose is phony too. Agreed.

Ok, I was all set to give you a hard time over the 'somewhat accidentally' remark you made about tuning, but then I kept reading and your thoughts were too nice for me to do so.

Damn. Double Damn!!

I think every woman is tuned for engagements and weddings (and don't forget babies!!). I watched last night too, I haven't watched the bachelor in many, many seasons but for some reason this British guy wasn't so bad. But the girl he picked, totally phony.

Jane - You're so right. On the Lorenzo Llamas' daughter front and the whole "worth the wait" point.

Hannah - Mush rules.

Geekhiker - Don't be afraid! I want to live vicariously through whomever you propose to - I'm sure you'll do something cool like take her to the top of Half Dome or something!

Brookem - I'm so glad you got teary too. I was annoyed with myself for letting the sap spring forth over such an annoying girl.

Michael - Come on! It's your job to throw funny jabs at me in the midst of my simpering!

Semichrmd - Phony with a capital Bologna. Seriously... Thanks for reminding me about babies - those might have the twangiest chord of all.

Oh my gosh, I had to tape Mondays Finale and yesterday at 6:30 in the morning before I left for jury duty downtown I decided to watch it back. I have a been watching this season religiously for some reason so as Matt got down on his knee and Shayne was like "Matt Matt1" tears were streaming down my face. I too thought she was a little on the fake side but man that really got to me. I'm such a sap! Plus I really really liked Matt, he was so cute and OH the accent...

I love movie/TV love, too, but if you would have watched the whole thing (like I did religiously) you would have totally wanted to vomit when the hunky Brit proposed to her! Seriously. It's no Sleepless in Seattle...which still gets me to this day!!
